Blush Photography Algarve
My first observation is that your wedding photographer follows you through the day, capturing all the great moments, from putting on your dress to having that first kiss as husband and wife.
Nickie has this fantastic ability to make couples feel at ease and even when they start the day saying that they hate having their picture taking, she gets couples loving the experience and relaxing into capturing all those special memories.
She has this eye for detail and can go to any location and spot the best places for that great shot and advice on the timings so that you capture the best light….. especially for all of you that are after that pinky sunset sky!! She knows when to organise all your friends and family to get the fun photos and when to step back and allow you to enjoy your day.
Her real expertise happens after the big day when she spends hours in front of her computer transforming your wedding photo's into magical images that are more than you could have dreamed of. You can check out her work by looking at her website but more importantly you need to enjoy your day and Nickie will ensure that you do. She is fun to be around and so you will not feel overpowered by having her subtly clicking away.
If you are doubting investing in a professional photographer, I would suggest you think carefully, as it is worth every penny to have your day captured in such an artistic and beautiful way.
Portugal Wedding Ceremonies
As a wedding photographer I have been to lots of weddings and captured many ceremonies. Having worked alongside Rebecca on many a happy ceremony, I have shed more than one tear of happiness and joy for the couple standing before me...after the amount of weddings I have worked at it is always a joy to still be touched by a love story with a happy ending!
Rebecca has a wonderful talent for turning each couples meeting and journey into a tingling love story for all to enjoy on the day. She helps each couple to piece together their story with her help, asking them simple questions like "what have you learnt from your partner and what makes your relationship special” and this all helps to create an incredibly deep and meaningful service unique to each couple. Rebecca is a hopeless romantic and this reflects in her ceremony making it the perfect way to celebrate your wedding vows.
She also does beautiful ceremonies with unique unity elements such as warming of the rings, which is lovely to watch as all the friends and families of the couple, hold the rings, close their eyes and make a wish for the happy couple. The Rose ceremony is another favourite for flower lovers where you get to exchange your first gift to each other as husband and wife. Whatever you want to create in your ceremony, she finds the words to make it meaningful and unique to you.
All in all if you are looking for a personal ceremony , unique to you both , Rebecca will be able to put this into words for you.
Unique and Chic Wedding Rental
You are going to just love Amelia from Unique and Chic!! She is incredible helpful, a great communicator and also has such a creative eye for new and imaginative ways of decorating your wedding venue.
Unique and Chic’s list of decorations continues to grow giving you affordable options to have quirky and beautiful decor, from table centers, to “just married” banners. Renting your decorations here in Portugal makes so much sense, as it reduces the costs, as well as giving you more room in your suitcase for that extra pair of shoes!
Unique and Chic have also launched a helping hands service, where they will be your wedding coordinator on the day, ensuring everything runs smoothly. We have worked with Amelia at a few weddings now, and watch her helping out with everything from last minute ironing of table clothes, stacking of chairs and general running about, allowing couples and their families to enjoy the day. Even if you have chosen to do all the planning yourself, it is worth considering this service for the day as it removes a lot of the pressure.
It is also worth following Unique and Chic on Facebook as they are always posting great ideas for weddings in Portugal.
Algarve Marquees are not your typical marquee that you may picture by our mind from back home. They are a real statement, very funky and they work brilliantly with their surroundings. They are incredibly versatile and perfect to be used as sunshade during the ceremony, eating outside or for the party afterwards. The Algarve is warm all year round but sometimes of the year it can cool down at night and this is perfect to take the edge off it.
The other great thing about these Marquees is that they open up the option to hire a villa for the week, set up a marquee in the garden and bring the wedding to you!! You can also opt for a winter wedding, when the flights are cheaper, feeling safe that if you do get a rare bit of rain, you will all be kept dry and can carry on the party.
We have both seen one of Algarve Marquees used at a drinks party and were both so impressed with how they looked, especially as it had been decorated with fairy lights. Really pretty.
Chat to Tom. He s incredibly helpful and experienced in this field. He will know what marquee would best utilise the area you have.
We love Suzannah. She is friendly and fun, she has an incredible eye for colour and her attention to detail is second to none. Her flowers are a statement and always get the "Wow" factor!
Suzannah’s Flowers is a family run business and together with her husband James, Suzannah not only creates the beautiful floral displays but they also grow many of the flower used! They have a real understanding of what arrangements work well for a wedding in Portugal and can give couples advice on all the choices of flowers you can have….and which will cope with the heat!
Suzannah likes to meet with the bride and groom before the wedding day so that she can fully understand their requirements and talk through the many choices available. She also visits to venue to ensure their creative ideas will enhance the day. It is a real personal service. Suzannah is English but speaks fluent Portuguese so is able to fully liaise with the venue to ensure your needs are met.
What every size wedding you are planning, and with whatever budget, you should contact Suzannah to see what she can offer you and what ideas she has. She is able to provide anything from the simplest buttonhole, to a fully decorated church or villa. She gets busy though so contact her early to avoid disappointment.
If you are planning a beach or cliff top wedding, Suzannah can provide you with a stunning pagoda in which to say your vows, that is beautifully decorated using your chosen fresh flowers.
If you are at all unsure as to what flowers to choose for a Portugal wedding and would like some ideas, whiz Suzannah an email, as I am sure she would be happy to give you some help and advice. Also click through to her website for more information and inspiration.
We truly recommend Suzannah – you will love working with her!
Casa do Largo Weddings
It is easy to write a review about Casa do Largo as it has so much to offer.
On arrival the first thing that hits you is the stunning Victorian style pergola, taking centre stage in the cobbled square, covered in pink bougainvillea housing a decorative fountain. The pergola offers much wanted shade and can seat up to 150 people for the wedding breakfast.
So the day starts with the ceremony in the pergola. There is a fabulous focus point at one end for the Celebrant and Bride and Groom, and a chandelier can be hung to make it extra special. The team at Casa do Largo will lay out all the chairs for your guests and assist with the decoration using your chosen colours and accessaries.
After the ceremony the Bride and Groom and all the guests have a group photo on the steps and the couple can then take a ride in the horse and carriage with a glass of champagne in hand. The guests can then make their way to Florentina’s Bar for cocktails and canapés.
While everyone is congratulating the happy couple and enjoying a refreshing drink, the team at Casa do Largo do their magic and transform the pergola from a ceremony space into the perfect reception area. With tables laid out and decorated, the guests return to the pergola for an amazing wedding meal, followed by deserts served in vintage tea cups
After your meal and speeches, the guests can wonder the gardens and refresh ready for partying back in Florentina’s. With a DJ or band, the party can go on into the wee hours.
The great thing about this wedding venue is how versatile it is. Having Florentina’s Bar on the premises allows the day to move seamlessly between the bar and the pergola. Also, if you choose to have a winter wedding here in Portugal, you can make use of the inside space.
Dont forget this venue for Hen and Stag party’s too, or maybe a family dinner the night before your wedding.
But I am going to finish with best bit. The team at Casa do Largo are fabulous. They work tirelessly to ensure your wedding day is amazing. They are friendly, professional and will work with you to design the perfect wedding.
Rick is the master of barbequing, whether you choose suckling pig, spit roast chicken or any other roast meat. They can also provide canapés for your cocktail drinks and for the main wedding meal can offer a variety of salads, fruits and breads. We have managed to wangle our way in and try them all!!!
This catering company offer a more informal relaxed service but maintaining a professional attitude. Their prices are incredibly competitive and so suit weddings that are watching their budget. They can also assist with laying out all the tables, providing all the plates and cutlery and can help with the seating for the ceremony.
As with many wedding suppliers here in the Algarve, many of us know each other and I know Liza is always happy to point you in the right direction for anything else you may need.
So if it's a relaxed style pig roast or bbq you want then Lisa and Rick are the team you need!
I had the pleasure of staying a night at Casa Miradouro and so can speak with experience when saying this boutique hotel is truly magical.
As soon as you enter the hotel you feel the classic calm of large ceilings, sweeping stairs and grand furnishings.
Down stairs your can relax in the drawing room which in the winter months, has the fires lit to create a warm ambience. The bed rooms are clean, spacious and have amazing views of Sintra’s mountains and a Palace or two.
The hotel has 8 bedrooms and so would be perfect to hire exclusively for your wedding party. The evening before you can use the space to meet and greet family members for a causal get together. On the wedding day itself there is plenty of room to have hair dressers and make up artists pampering you while enjoying a glass or two of Champers.
There are lots of options for the wedding itself, depending on the size of your party and style wedding you dream of. With the large stone sweeping stairs leading to the garden, this could be an amazing backdrop for your ceremony. Alternatively you may choose to take your guests to one of the Palaces close by, to hold your ceremony in the Palace gardens. Monserrate Palace is particularly nice.
For the evening celebrations, you can either choose to celebrate at the hotel where the owner can organise outside caterers to come in and create a fantastic wedding banquet. Or close by there are many great restaurants where you could take your guests.
So with lots of options, we say that Casa Miradouro is definitely worth considering if you want a wedding in magical Sintra.
Right girls… lets talk make-up. You have invested in a stunning dress, the hairdresser has created the perfect wedding look and you have the photographer ready to capture the day, so your wedding day is the day to spoil yourself with a professional make over.
Judith van de Loo is based in the Algarve but is happy to travel to your hotel or venue so that you can spend the morning relaxing. She has loads of experience in the beauty industry and trained in a professional make-up school in Holland for four years, so you will be in good hands! To top it all she is lovely and will make you feel at ease.
So that you make sure you are happy on the day with your finished look, it is worth having a trail. She will start by asking you loads of questions, like your style of wedding dress and colours you like. This all helps her to create the look you want. She is also able to offer you a spray tan to give you that natural look for your wedding in the sun.
Don't forget your mum and the bridesmaids. You could treat them to a makeover too. What a great way to spend the wedding morning… all girls together, glass of champagne and total pampering.
Judith is happy for you to contact her to ask prices, packages and availability or ask any questions about the products she uses, so just click her logo to find her contact details.
After the big day, send us some wedding pics and we will post them on Facebook for you!!
Paul Fuller Photography
I have worked with Paul Fuller at a number of weddings over the past few years, when I was conducting the ceremony. He has such a friendly and approachable nature, putting everyone around him at ease. Many brides and grooms have commented on this.
In business Paul is incredibly professional and has a fine eye for detail ensuring the best service for his clients. Looking at his photographic portfolio, he really does have an eye for capturing the moment beautifully.
I have had the pleasure of working with Charlie from Kaleidosonix at a number of weddings where I have been conducting the ceremony. His company offers a variety of services from providing DJ’s, lighting, equipment for music and bands and most importantly for me, a microphone for the Celebrant! He can manage all the production side of the sound equipment and so ensuring the ceremony runs smoothly with mics for any live singers or musicians and myself, controlling them all, knowing when to switch on and off. He will control the entrance music and the special song for when the newly weds walk back down the aisle.
Now Charlie is a perfectionist. Before the ceremony he ensures that he has everything ready and tests out any Ipods that couples have given him to use, including ensuring he has the pass codes to get into them if they lock themselves during the playlist!
The DJ and music set up looks impressive. He has all the lights, decks and everything needed to have a fun filled night of dancing. Couples also often hire equipment from him for their week stay in the villa so that they can party every night with their friends and family. Here is Portugal a wedding is not just one day!
So if there is anything you may need, music wise, give Charlie and his team a call and I am sure he will exceed your expectations.
Last week we had the pleasure of working with Corina from Food Passion on a different kind of wedding. The ceremony was conducted out on a boat in Alvor bay with the bride arriving in a separate speedboat with her bridesmaids. The weather was perfect and the water was calm! After the ceremony we went out to dolphin watch during the champagne cocktails, it was really unique and all the guests loved it, young and old!
The reception was back at Big Reds with fine dining by Food Passion. Delicious canapes that simply melted in your mouth and then a fantastic meal for all in their marquee.
Food Passion are so entusiastic when it comes to creating unique and individual weddings and they work with some of Algarves greatest chefs. Whizz them an email if you want to find out more.
I have had the privilege of working along side Dan and Tash from Birch Photography at a number of weddings now and firstly I want to say what lovely people they are!! They will make you feel at ease and work to find the best locations for those special shots.
We worked together at a beach wedding where they had helped the couple choose the perfect beach location for their ceremony. Then on the day, they chatted with me about the best place to actually hold the ceremony, with an opportunity to get the best shots, while still giving the wedding party the perfect view of the sea and allow me as the Celebrant not to get caught in the waves!!
Dan and Tash will work out a package that suits your needs and your budget so it is worth chatting to them about everything you would like from your photographer. Go and check out their photos on their website to get a taste of their style and to give you ideas of what you would like.
After the big day, Dan and Tash will edit your photos and create CD’s or Albums to your specifications and can send an on-line link for you to share your pics with all your friends and family.
Click through to their page for all their contact details.
Progress Bar Events
I have had the pleasure of working alongside Artur on many occasions this year, both weddings and events. He is a very friendly likeable guy.
His cocktails have been a great success at weddings and have caused lots of excitement amongst guests, as they eagerly queue to try the next one. The strawberry Daquiris and Cairparinhas are delicious, not to mention his champagne cocktails.
Artur’s flair shows and talent for juggling are brilliant and a great surprise entertainment with the guests; so if you fancy something a little different at your wedding, give Progress Bar Events a call.
Feedback from Artur’s happy couples is that he is "brilliant, professional and nothing is too much trouble and it's like having 5 barman rolled into one!!"
Progress Bar Events can organize drinks for your guests before or after the ceremony, organize the whole bar for during and after the meal and will even design a cocktail named after you! It is also worth checking out the Champagne Cascade!!
Follow them on Facebook and you can catch all the regular updates and news.
Lastly ladies…. You can also bring in Artur and his team for your Hen Night party…. Just think Tom Cruise in Cocktail!! Yay.
Quinta bonito is everything it says in its name, it's pretty and quaint, combining typical Portugal with English charm. The whole setting is perfect for an intimate wedding venue and place for your nearest and dearest to stay and be close to you.
Chantelle and Frazer make the most perfect hosts, with their friendly relaxed approach, always making sure everything is exactly how you want it to be. The gardens are beautiful and lush, with little waterfalls creating that tranquil atmosphere. There is a lush green lawn designed specifically to hold the ceremony, surrounded by palms and lemon trees. There is all sorts of different areas for cocktails and canapés to choose from. One of my favourites is a beautiful rustic area, overlooking a traditional English rose garden. The rooms are outstanding with all you need for every comfort, making it feel like home from home.
Quinta Bonita have also teamed up with Algarve Marquees, giving you additional options to create the perfect space for your wedding celebrations.
We have been really excited about writing this review, as we love anything a little quirky and unique to add to your wedding experience!
Bike My Side are based in both Lisbon and the Algarve and offer fantastic tours on a bike with side car to explore to local area. Whether you fancy experiencing the exciting city of Lisbon, or checking out the stunning coastline of the Algarve, they have a tour for you and there are loads of ways to build the experience into your wedding.
We had the opportunity of meeting with Daniel, from Lisbon, who gave us a tour of the city. We met on a very hot Saturday afternoon at Casa dos Bicos, (Portuguese for House of the Spikes), and were soon enjoying the refreshing breeze and comfort of the sidecar that meandered up the old streets of the Alfama district. We stopped at Se Cathedral, for a photo opportunity… where quite a few tourists were taking pics of us!! And then on through some amazing narrow streets, with fabulous artwork on the walls of the houses, depicting all the local residents.
If you know Lisbon, you will know that each street is either a steep walk up or a steep walk down and so the joy of being driven around, yet still feeling in the open air was great. Daniel then took us to Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, which offered sweeping views over Lisbon that reach from Castelo de Sao Jorge to Cristo Rei. From here we headed into the centre of Lisbon through the Baixa district and then drove up the Avenue Liberdade, which I believe was modelled from the Champs-Élysées. All through the drive, Daniel was answering questions and explaining statues and land marks. Once in the Bairro Alto, full of Lisbon’s bars and restaurants, we enjoyed another stunning view of Lisbon and a cold drink! We said our good byes to our fantastic tour guide and spent the evening meandering our way down the hill back into the city centre.
I am not usually a motorbike person, but I absolutely loved this tour and would recommend it to anyone. It feels safe and comfortable and you get to see the whole of Lisbon in one go, allowing you to chose which bits to re visit on the rest of your holiday.
Of course Daniel and I chatted weddings. The idea of arriving at the wedding ceremony on a bike with sidecar is novel and unique and a fabulous photo opportunity. However, if you are on a public road, helmets must be warn so you may want to take this into consideration if you have just spent 3 hours having your wedding hair done. Private estates the rules can be adjusted a little. I came away thinking that the bike and sidecar experience is such fun, that I would want to share it, so one idea is to offer the experience for your special friends or wedding party. Daniel in Lisbon or Delfrim in the Algarve, can tailor your experience to offer short tours, two at a time, for your guests. Everyone can also have their photo taken and you can still get those great wedding shots. It also doesn’t need to be on the wedding day, as we all know a wedding in Portugal is never just one day. So this experience would work well built into the “day after wedding BBQ”. What a great way to say thanks to your best man and bridesmaids, offering them this great opportunity. Personally it beats a hip flask in my eyes.
So, we would suggest that you chat with Delfrim and Daniel and look at ways you can involve Bike My Side in your wedding.
Lastly, if after the wedding, the two of your fancy getting away for a few days and head to Lisbon…. It is a must!! The best way to see the city!!
If you are getting married in the Ferragudo area, and are looking for somewhere for you or your guests to stay, Casa Rosina is a great choice. With four bedrooms it easily sleeps 8 people and there is space to fit in up to 12 so is suitable for both families or groups.
The villa is beautifully decorated and has all the facilities you could possible need for a relaxing stay in Portugal. To top it all there is a heated pool to relax in! Casa Rosina is walkable from both the beach and the bars and restaurants, so everyone is happy. There is also a water taxi from Ferragudo to Portimao, if you fancy a bit of shopping or coffee at the Marina. YPW give Casa Rosina the thumbs up.
Mandy is one of those people who you will instantly like! She is happy and bubbly and has years of experience as a fully qualified beauty therapist under her belt. With her knowledge and experience Mandy will listen to exactly what you want to achieve make up wise on your wedding and will also advise you on colours and looks etc if you wish.
Mandy loves what she does and keeps on top of all the latest trends and fashions. She uses top quality brands, such as Mac and Bobby Brown and will create a stunning look for you on your wedding day. Mandy will take the stress out of your wedding preparations. She is happy to do a trial before the big day, and then on the day will travel to you, saving you from having to run around. Once she sends you one your way down the isle, she will ensure you have a little pack of essentials …such as lipstick, blotting paper, etc
We have worked with Mandy many times and would happily recommend her to any bride to be.
Canico is just one of those places that takes your breath away. From the moment you head down in the lift that runs through the cliff and out onto the terrace, you will be captured by the magic of Algarve's stunning coastline of golden rugged cliffs and sandy beach.
This makes it a superb place to hold your wedding ceremony and to give all your guests a treat and not to mention the unbeatable "wow" factor.
The restaurant is rustic and traditional with tons of character, the view is second to none and to top it all the food is delicious. Both of us have worked at weddings at Canico and have been impressed by the friendly staff who are always professional yet calm and relaxed, ensuring you have a great event.
Depending on the time of year and the tide, you can either have your ceremony on the beach or in a secluded garden area on the edge of the cliffs above the restaurant, which boasts another stunning view and is the perfect location for celebration cocktails before making your way down to the beach for your photos, meal and party!
There is also a choice with where you hold your wedding breakfast. We have seen tables laid out beautifully on the sand, surrounded by bamboo lanterns and candles or alternatively the restaurant area can be transformed into a magical space giving a great feel of Portugal. Smaller parties have the option of eating on the terrace, overlooking the beach.
Many a night we have watched the party rock on until the small hours either with a band or a DJ while the guests all enjoy cocktails on the secluded beach. Lights are projected onto the rock face to give it that extra special touch.
Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for a beach venue. If you are not planning a beach wedding then it is still a wonderful place to visit and appreciate some of the stunning Algarvian beaches.
Vila Vita is top class and five star all the way!
This year I strangely found myself
A: planning a wedding of which I don't do.... I am a photographer!!
B: having 3 days to do it and
C: for a famous Dutch author of which I didn't know until day two!!! Not to mention photographing it!
We met with the in-house planner at Vila Vita, we looked at a couple of different ceremony areas in the huge estate, all by the sea with lots of mature palms and pine trees, waterfalls and bridges and beautifully kept gardens and pathways. We immediately chose a very private secluded area by a lake overlooking the sea...perfect!
By the end of the meeting we had the menu sorted which was something else, so delicious and so beautiful to look at, not to mention eat! So we managed to plan the whole thing in one meeting with the very efficient, experienced and ever so helpful staff at Vila Vita. The day ran smoothly, everything was perfect and beautiful and most of all everything the bride had wished for all in 3 days!!!
If you are looking for a five star beautiful hotel by the sea we highly recommend Vila Vita.
